Stoke City piled more misery on Newcastle's bad start to the season with a 1-0 victory on a soaking wet night at the Britannia stadium.

The opening Exchanges of the match were even between the two sides but with 5 minutes on the clock Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote maybe got the benefit of the doubt of the surface after colliding with Stoke striker Peter Crouch, replays showed that Tiote left his foot high whilst sliding in catching Crouch on the knee, red cards have been given for less. A lucky boy indeed with officials not seeing the challenge.

On 14 Minutes came the break through, Stoke's on loan winger Victor Moses Beating two Newcastle players, getting a superb cross in which found the head Peter Crouch to give the potters an early lead.

Just 6 minutes after the goal, a moment of controversy, a quick counter attack from Stoke saw Newcastle's Gouffran bring down potters winger Moses in the box but to no avail as the officials waved it away, however it was the most clear penalty yet this season in the premier league with the official on the touchline being right in the line of play he should of known better.

Stoke at this point lost Mame Biram Diuof to a hamstring injury which could possibly rule him out for a couple of weeks, he was replaced by Marko Arnautovic after just 23 minutes.

Stoke for the remainder of the first half soaked up pressure with the defence holding solid with only one decent effort for the Toon army coming in the first 45 minutes coming from Daryl Janmaat on the stroke of half time, a decent effort hard and low from 15 yards, Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic pulling off a great save.

The second half started Brightly for the hosts with only a few minutes of the second half gone a cracking volley from Marko Arnautovic saw it rattle against the post with Toon keeper Tim Krul well beaten.

Very scrappy in midfield during the second half.

On 62 minutes Stoke should of punished the visitors and made it 2-0 but it was not meant to be, A mix up in the Newcastle penalty area saw Victor Moses steal the ball but Dutch international keeper Tim Krul was on his toes to gather it in, Newcastle hanging on with Stoke looking threatening every time they break.

Then a moment for Newcastle Midfielder Jack colcback to forget. The ball somehow found its way to him in the box after bouncing off a Stoke player and with Stoke's Bosnian International Keepr Begovic with them in the scuffle, Colback had the goal at his mercy, somehow he managed to hit the crossbar from only a couple of yards out. Nightmare for Colback and Newcastle.

The rest of the half was a case of Newcastle trying but lacking ability and fire power, with Stoke easily gathering all 3 points in a game which sounds close by the score line but in comparison to action was far from it, could of easily been 3 or 4 for the Potters.

Second win of the season and first home win for Stoke, Potters fans mighty relieved, fortress Britannia once again.
