Champions rocked by Potters

After Manchester City beat last seasons title rivals Liverpool in midweek it seemed the writing was on the wall for Stoke City, however the plucky Potters had other ideas.

Sergio Aguero was starting his first match this season for Manchester City in a very strong looking squad as always. As for Stoke, Victor Moses and Johnathan Walters start for the first time this season with Marko Arnautovic dropped to the bench.

It only took Manchester City 11 minutes to test Stoke keeper Begovic after a good move from the hosts, Samir Nasri hitting a shot straight at the Stoke City shot stopper but through a wall of bodies, considering being unsighted a good save from the Bosnian.

Then a moment of controversy in the 19th minute, after Stoke left back Eric Pieters played a long ball up to Mame Biram Diuof, who despite having the sky blue shirt of kolarov all over him stays on feet only to be brought down in the area, certain contact and certain penalty but referee Lee Mason looks away.

After that the rest of the first half was quiet up until right before half time when an angled run into the box from Sergio Aguero, saw a cross rifle off and over the bar from Yaya Toure. Close but no cigar, A tepid first half of this match.

12 minutes into the second half saw a moment of magic, on 57 minutes Manchester City were awarded a corner after a good save from Begovic from yet again a Toure shot, the resulting corner was headed out by Eric Pieters who's clearance fell kindly to Mame Biram Diouf who from just outside his own penalty area proceeded to Sprint up the pitch out muscling city's kolarov, nut megging Fernandihno and calmly as you like slotting the ball underneath Man City keeper Joe Hart to give Stoke a shock 0-1 lead at the Etihad.

Not long after this on 62 minutes a great run and cross from Stoke City's Peter Odemwingie found Diouf in the box this time missing by inches, a chance easier than the one he scored from.

With less than 15 minutes to go the reigning Champions Man City just could not figure how to break a solid Stoke defence down, this time a neat little one, two from Silva and Toure saw Toure's shot deflected wide with Begovic beaten.

In the last few minutes a bemused Man City manager pellegrini saw his side producing an onslaught but Stokes defence was holding strong. Then another moment of controversy when Yaya Toure appeared to be brought down by Stoke City defender Eric Pieters only for referee Lee Mason to produce a yellow card to Toure for diving in what looked a clear penalty.

Stoke producing a solid display to inflict only Manchester City's 3rd home defeat in 3 years. With Manchester City themselves sending out a tweet after the game congratulating the potter's on a famous win.
