Cort is in the bag for £1.2m

Leon Cort is now the third new player to sign for Stoke in the January transfer window and also became Stoke's record signing in a £1.2m deal.

Whilst this had been regarded as a done deal since Cort joined on loan from Crystal Palace in November, no deal can ever be regarded as a certainty until the player signs on the dotted line. Now Leon has signed a three and a half year contract and fans will welcome the news that he will definitely be staying at the Brit.

The Potters are hoping that Clint Hill's loan move in the opposite direction will also be made permanent which will offset some of the costs. The defender is out of contract in the summer, but has made an excellent contribution to the Eagles' recent return to form, scoring three goals and his transfer fee should be at least £200,000.

IN
Already in the can:

Salif Diao (free agent)
Danny Pugh - Preston North End (£500k)
Andy Griffin - Derby (£300k)
Leon Cort - Crystal Palace (£1.2m)

Reasonable certainties:
Ryan Shawcross - Manchester United (£1m+?)

Just the rumour mill for now:
Glenn Whelan - Sheffield Wed. He has been talked about since the summer and the Owls have just turned down a 'derisory' offer of £250k from Plymouth
Stelios Giannakopoulos - Bolton (£750k?) Megson is a big mate of TP, so who knows..
Marlon Harewood - Aston Villa. Rumours link the Potters to a loan deal for the former Hammers' striker until the end of the season

OUT
and already gone

Peter Sweeney - Leeds United ('nominal fee')

Those possibly on their way out of the Brit:
Clint Hill - Crystal Palace. Hill has had a good loan spell at Palace

I'll keep this updated as the month progresses. If you've got any other rumours why not add them below.

Cort's a great deal in my opinion. We're on the march if we get a couple more new boys in. Keep nutting them balls in the back of the net Carl, let's have you on 10 for the season...
