Jailbird Pericard flys free

Jailbird and Stoke striker, Vincent Pericard is to be released from Leyhill prison near Bristol on Monday after serving just one month of his sentence.

Pericard was sentenced to three months in jail for 'perverting the cause of justice' by lying about not being the driver of a car caught speeding in March 2005.

The club have made it clear that while they don't condone what he has done, they believe that he's learnt his lesson and done his time so he will be available for immediate selection. With not much else to do, it's to be hoped that Vince has been keeping himself fit after completing a reasonable full pre-season schedule for the Potters.

He'll be tagged for the next few weeks, but the club are hoping that the authorities will allow him clearance to play during any evening matches. Coach, Mark O'Connor told the official site 'We've sent off a list of fixtures for evening games where we will have to change his times or they allow him to go over that time. He's going to have to buy or rent a place in the area I imagine as he can't drive or come from Manchester every day.'

Any idea how he happens to live in Manchester? He's never played for any clubs in the area - just Portsmouth and Plymouth before he arrived with us, I think?

When he was caught speeding it was said that he was travelling from his home in Portsmouth to Plymouth. Unless MOC has got his facts wrong, he must have moved north when he joined Stoke, but preferred the Mancunian fleshpots to the Pots themselves.
