'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Megson stands in for Pulis

Former Stoke manager, Gary Megson has asked Potters' fans to be patient as the club starts it's new season.

Megson, who is a close friend of Tony Pulis and has been assisting him during the Potters' pre-season training for the second consecutive summer, explained why Pulis was not at the manager's normal Thursday press briefing: 'That's why I'm doing this press conference today, the gaffer is upstairs trying to get a couple more lads in. He wants to improve the squad here, and not just bring in players to make up the numbers.'

Commenting on the abortive bid for Fortune last week, he told the official site: 'It is a very busy time now because some players will realise they aren't going to be playing at the club they are at, so they will want to move.
'Jon Fortune is one of them players, the fact that Charlton accepted a bid from Stoke must tell him something and if suddenly he ends up sitting on the bench kicking his heels he may think, I want to move and that is why a lot of players do move after the season has started.'
