Lambert Wants Stoke On The Front Foot

Manager Paul Lambert has called on the Stoke City side to be on the front foot when we face Leicester City this weekend.

Stoke head to the King Power Stadium on Saturday and with only one away win so far this season on our travels - Watford back in October - Lambert wants us to take the game to Leicester and do all we can to turn that record around.

Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media to preview the game, the Scotsman explained.

'I`ve got that fight and commitment from them and you can`t ask for any more. We`ve got 11 cup finals ahead of us and no matter what, that isn`t going to change. At least I know we`ve got the confidence to go and win games - I have seen that from them in each of the four matches so far, and that is a real positive.'

He went on to say that he was confident given what he'd seen from the players, even if results could've been better.

'We have been right in all of the matches and had chances and opportunities to win them all too, so in a way it is frustrating that we don`t have more than the five points we have picked up. That said, five points from four, and losing just once isn`t a bad return - at the start of the season, you would certainly take that, but maybe because of the position we are in it is easy to look and think we should have got more. As I said before though, we have had moments to win a couple more of those games, which is why we will be trying to play on the front foot at the weekend.'

'We won`t be setting our stall out to defend, because that isn`t the way I like to play, and also we have the players to go out there and hurt them.'

Xherdan Shaqiri was also in front of the media this week, and his focus was on praising Lambert for the way he's lifted the group since his arrival at the club.

'He is a really honest guy, and he speaks a lot with the players, which I feel is really important, especially when we are in the situation we are in. From the first moment I met him he has been very positive, he has had many conversations with me, and the other players too, and I like the communication we get from him. Everybody respects him, we are more compact together as a group now and we feel happy on the pitch - we feel confident and are training really well.'

The 26 year old Swiss international went on to say.

'Of course we are not in a great place, but we are a good team with good players and a very good manager also, so we have the belief that we can turn things around with him. He has German mentalities with his teams and how he operates and I am really glad that he came here - he is already making an impact.'
