Young Striker Could Be In Line For Debut
Stoke City manager Paul Lambert has continued to wax lyrical about youngster Tyrese Campbell and he insists the player is firmly in his thoughts and could debut soon - Leicester City may be too soon for that to happen but stranger things have happened in football.
Campbell has been a regular topic of discussion on the Official Website, featuring in a number of articles of late as he continues to impress for our Under 23 side, and he now has 12 goals in 15 games and three of those came in last weekend's four one victory over Fulham and Lambert is certainly aware of the 18 year old.
'Age doesn`t concern me, what concerns me most is a player`s ability, so if he is good enough then I will throw him in - that is how I see it. I needed a manager to throw me in when I was young and without the belief of a manager I would never have got my opportunity.'
Lambert went on to say that in some ways as a manager now his job is to give others the opportunity he himself received in his playing days, and Campbell is certainly ticking all the right boxes for him to come into contention.
'Tyrese is scoring goals, he scored a hat-trick at the weekend and there is only so long you can ignore that for. He has been training with us, he is doing all the right things and he is certainly in my thoughts for the games we have coming up.'
Speaking about Leicester more specifically and our trip to the King Power Stadium, he explained.
'We will go to Leicester to try and win. We won't look to sit in. We have big support going who will want us to go and attack. We know it will be difficult against a side who won the Premier League two years ago but we will look to cause them problems.'
'We know our last match against Brighton was a big chance to pick up three points but we are playing well and hopefully wins will come. Fitness is getting there, although it won't change overnight. We train the way we play which is how I've always gone about things.'
