Butland Interest Doesn't Surprise Lambert

Butland Interest Doesn't Surprise Lambert

With Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland taking to social media the other day to rubbish reports that he had already told the club he wanted to move on next summer, manager Paul Lambert has said he's not surprised by the speculation as clubs will be looking at Butland given his development in recent years.

Lambert also pointed to Butland's own statement on the stories to reassure fans that he had no doubts over his commitment to the side and his contract.

Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media this week, when the topic came up Lambert explained.

'I only heard about the story this morning and that Jack had quashed the rumours as such. He is one of the best goalkeepers going around, in Europe terms as well. Without a doubt the boy`s a terrific goalkeeper, a good lad as well. Does it surprise me that rumours fly about? Not really, because rumours fly about all good players and he`s one of the best.'

The Scotsman went on to say that with how grounded Butland was, he didn't think any speculation would faze him.

'He`s too good a guy, too good a pro to be affected by any talk. He`s been terrific since I`ve been here and as a person he`s been great too.'

Having known of Butland as an outsider in football, and his involvement locally with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lambert went on to say that having now worked with the 24 year old his estimation of the stopper had only risen.

'I have admired Jack as a professional, like many others, for quite some time but you`re never quite sure until you work with somebody - what they are like as characters. But Jack has got every attribute there, both as a professional and as a person too. He`s good with the ball at his feet, he`s a good kicker of the ball and he`s got the height and presence. He`s only a young lad as well with probably the best years in front of him. A good goalkeeper is worth their weight in gold. They can be a major difference between success and failure.'
