Pieters - The Pressure Is On
Erik Pieters has said that although there are no nerves within the Stoke City group, everyone is keenly aware that the pressure is on.
Hosting Brighton at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday, a win would pull Stoke level with them on points and potentially bring us back out of the relegation places.
Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media ahead of the game, Pieters promised that everyone had their eye on victory and they were prepared to battle to take the points.
'There are certainly no nerves within the group, but of course we know there`s pressure because of the situation we find ourselves in. We`ve spoken about the trust and belief we have in each other, how we have to give everything and I believe we are good enough with the players we have to really go for it. It`s my fifth season at the Club and it is certainly a new experience for me, I`m not going to walk away from it - I want to fight for the shirt and get us out of the position we are in.'
Pieters went on to say he expected the same attitude from everybody in the group as we have to be together.
'That`s what I expect from everybody because we`re all in this as a team, we need to stick together and make sure we get the win tomorrow because it`s a very big game for us now. We want to get out of the relegation zone as soon as possible; we know we have a good team and that if we work hard together then we`re hard to beat.'
With 12 games remaining the campaign he knew there were plenty of points available for us to end the season on a high, but we can't let games slip by us now we have to make the most of it and start picking up those extra wins quickly, and for him that begins with Brighton after slipping up against Bournemouth.
'There are 12 huge games left for us, last weekend was disappointing because we played well and created chances, tomorrow is massive for us and we need to be at our best from the first to the last whistle.'
