Bournemouth Left Me Sick To My Stomach

Stoke City manager Paul Lambert has admitted that defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend, given the circumstances of the loss, left him feeling sick to his stomach.

Heading to Dean Court for the tie against Eddie Howe's side, Xherdan Shaqiri gave us an early fifth minute lead in the game and we did have opportunities to build on that, but it's fair to say the hosts had greater chances and possession and ultimately that increased control on the game paid off for them with 20 minutes remaining as they scored twice to take all three points.

Lambert was left bitterly disappointed at the full time whistle as he felt, stats aside, we were the better side on the day and he desperately wanted that first away win since last autumn.

Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media following the game, a disappointed Scotsman explained.

'I would have been very disappointed with a draw, so to be sitting here having lost the game is devastating. We played well today, we played with a hunger, we got up and at them and for the majority of the match we were by far the better team.'

Lambert went on to say that the equaliser was 'tough' but he felt it was one of those kind of goals where given the collision that took place in the lead up, we can consider ourselves 'unfortunate'.

He was far less forgiving of their winner however.

'The second goal, from our point of view, was entirely unacceptable - we simply can`t allow players to get in those positions and have a clear header at goal. It wasn`t good enough, we know that, but that aside I thought we looked very solid again today, just as we have done in the previous two matches.'
