Hughes Sacked After Coventry Defeat
Stoke City have confirmed this evening that manager Mark Hughes contract has been terminated with immediate effect.
Following our recent poor run of form in the Premier League that led Hughes earlier in the week to comment that his talks with the board were focused on January transfer dealings and not his future, given growing fan feeling and media speculation, it appears the Coventry game in the FA Cup was the final straw as Stoke went down two one earlier today.
A brief statement on the Official Website read.
'We would like to thank Mark for all he has achieved for the Club over the last four and a half years, notably in guiding us to three successive ninth places finishes in the Premier League, and we wish him every success for the future.'
The statement went on to say that a new manager would be appointed 'as soon as possible' but until that point there would be no further official comment.
With six defeats in the last eight matches its not a great surprise to see the boar take action and the club are in the relegation zone, but the biggest pointer was the growing 'Hughes out' banners appearing at matches.
