Reactions - Tottenham v Stoke (9/12/17)

Following today's clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Tottenham Hotspur hosted Stoke City at Wembley Stadium for a 3pm kick off on Saturday December 9, with the hosts taking an emphatic five one victory.

A Ryan Shawcross own goal gave Tottenham the advantage and whilst he managed to score Stoke's consolation to offset matters, further efforts from Son Hueng-min, a Harry Kane brace and a late Christian Eriksen goal left the final result in no doubt as Spurs move into fifth place in the Premier League table.

Stoke drop to 15th in the table and have now won only once in seven games as they hover three points above the relegation places.

Teams:

Tottenham:

Lloris, Trippier, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies, Dembele, Winks (Sissoko 78), Eriksen, Alli (Lamela 67), Son Heung-min (Llorente 86), Kane.

Substitutes:

Rose, Vorm, Foyth, Aurier.

Stoke:

Butland, Zouma, Shawcross, Wimmer, Edwards (Crouch 70), Allen (Afellay 80), Fletcher, Pieters, Shaqiri (Cameron 75), Diouf, Choupo-Moting.

Substitutes:

Berahino, Adam, Sobhi, Grant.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Roger East blew the final whistle, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino explained.

'That is how we need to play from now. Consistency between now and the end of the season is so important if we want to finish in the top four. The team showed their true quality.'

He added.

'Last season we were frustrated because we were very good in the Premier League but we were a disaster in the Champions League. This season the team was so determined to show that they can compete in the Champions League and when you mix with the Premier League that maybe was a bit of a distraction. But now we can only be focussed on the Premier League and winning games.'

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes in his comparitive interview explained.

'It's not good enough doing ok just for 45 minutes. We couldn't deal with Tottenham's power and pace. We struggled in one-on-one situations, we needed to get tighter. Today will damage our confidence. That is the worry for us.'
