Allen Assessed Over Suspected Concussion

Allen Assessed Over Suspected Concussion

Stoke City are assessing midfielder Joe Allen after the player suffered a suspected concussion during Wales' World Cup qualifying defeat to the Republic of Ireland.

Allen was substituted in the first half of the game following a heavy collision with David Meyler, and he's set to be a doubt for Stoke's game against Manchester City this weekend.

He's set to be assessed directly by club staff on Thursday given the Football Association and Premier League guidelines to be followed in these situations.

Speaking to the Official Website, assistant manager Mark Bowen explained that he had been given an extended period of time off to rest up, but we expected him back on Thursday and hopefully he'll remain in contention for us.

'Joe is an early doubt, but we are still hopeful on him for the weekend although he did have to come off last night after suffering a bang to his head. We haven`t seen him today because he only arrived back home late last night, and we wanted to give him the next 48 hours to make sure he is ready to come in on Thursday.'

Bowen went on to say.

'We didn`t see any real need to get him in this morning, so fingers crossed he is ok and available for the game on Saturday. There is protocol to follow with injuries of this nature, which we will of course follow - the doctor will go around later today to see him, but he will come back in on Thursday and we will assess him then.'
