Butland Pleased With Team Spirit
Goalkeeper Jack Butland has hailed the Stoke City spirit following our performance over Southampton last weekend.
Speaking with the Official Website this week to reflect on the two one victory, Butland hailed the team's work ethic across the 90 minutes as we picked up our second with of the Premier League season.
'That`s exactly what we have got. We had to hang on in the end, but our team ethic is what you want to see and that`s what we have, we just need to make sure we do that every weekend. Last time out against Chelsea, despite the injuries, I think we shot ourselves in the foot after a minute. We didn`t do that on Saturday; we dug in, played well and created opportunities.'
The England man went on to say.
'The boys were brilliant; they stuck their bodies in, won headers, got clearances and okay, it wasn`t too pretty but we did everything to ensure we got over the line and get the win. We needed a performance like that at the weekend, just to dig in and put three points on the board because we`ve been both unlucky and not good enough in previous games gone by.'
With Kurt Zouma, Geoff Cameron and Kevin Wimmer coming back into manager Mark Hughes' thoughts for the game having missed out on the Chelsea clash, Butland went on to say that hopefully our defensive injury issues will now ease.
'It`s been tough with the continuity of the team, people coming in and out as well as playing out of position. It`s not been easy, but hopefully after the international break we will have everyone back fit - or close to it - and we can keep people fit, have a real good go and put the last stretch behind us.'
