Hughes - Youngsters Will Get A Chance

Mark Hughes has said that Stoke City's youngsters will get a chance to impress this season as he previewed this weekend's clash against Southampton.

Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media ahead of this weekend's clash with Mauricio Pellegrino's side, Hughes admitted that it was the magnitude of the game against Chelsea that stopped him from thrusting Josh Tymon and Harry Souttar into the action, but their chances would certainly come.

'They were very close against Chelsea, and whilst they didn`t take part it shows how close they are. Both players were named amongst the substitutes, and whilst we did have injuries, that in itself shows that they were seriously in my thinking.'

Hughes went on to say.

'They are doing well on a daily basis and I have no qualms of putting them in, but sometimes the circumstances of a game deter you from doing that. They are both only 18, so it isn`t a case of having to push them forward, we are developing them at the right pace and they will get opportunities in the future, that is for sure.'

With a defensive injury crisis at the moment, Hughes also said that he was hopeful of welcoming back Geoff Cameron for the game. The United States international hasn't featured since suffering a hamstring injury in the first half of the game against Manchester United earlier this month, but he is now close.

'We are hopeful on Geoff Cameron, which would be a big positive for us. In terms of the defensive injuries we have, he is realistically the only one who has a genuine chance of taking part. Kevin Wimmer hasn`t trained yet, so it would be a risk to include him at this stage, especially with the injury only occurring nine or 10 days ago.'

He went on to say.

'We will have a look at the shape of the team today and then make a decision, but thankfully if Geoff is available, along with Kurt returning, then we will be in far healthier shape in the central positions.'

Hughes also confirmed that Bruno Martins Indi was out for a few weeks having picked up a groin injury against Chelsea.

'Bruno is out for a number of weeks, unfortunately. He injured his groin during the last 15 minutes at the weekend so we are going to be without him this weekend.'
