Diouf Expecting Tough Southampton Test
Senegalese international Mame Diouf has said that although the fixture list looks prettier to Stoke City from here on out, he's still expecting a very tough test against Mauricio Pellegrino's Southampton outfit.
Speaking to the Official Website as he met with the media this week to preview the coming game, Diouf didn't put much stock in Southampton's struggle for goals so far this year as he knew they were a quality bunch of players.
Reflecting on our season so far, Diouf explained.
'If you look at the first seven or eight fixtures we have had then it is quite incredible. I don`t think anybody expected us to get much from our opening three or four games, but we did very well in those matches. We showed good character and performed well, but things have slip a little bit since, which has been disappointing. People may look at this fixture with Southampton and think Stoke are at home, they will win that one, but football doesn`t work like that.'
Diouf went on to say about Southampton themselves that Stoke couldn't afford to take anything for granted as all teams pose a threat and we've seen how tough a team to face they are previously.
'You can take nothing for granted, there is no such thing as an easy game at this level. We beat Arsenal, we drew with Manchester United and then we lost to Newcastle United, when everybody thought we would win. They played with real heart against us, they performed well and they beat us - that is what football is all about - I don`t think favourites really make a difference, it is down to who is better on the day.'
'We are at home this weekend though, we have to dictate what happens and hopefully we can do what we have done against Arsenal, Manchester United and even Chelsea, who I thought we played pretty well against.'
