Swansea Interest In Midfielder Rebuffed

Swansea Interest In Midfielder Rebuffed

Yesterday evening it was being reported that Stoke City had rejected an inquiry from Swansea City for Joe Allen.

Sky Sports reported at about 9pm that their sources understood a firm inquiry in the Welshman had come in from the Welsh club, and chief executive Tony Scholes had now confirmed that we had no interest in selling the player so it had been dismissed.

Going into his second season at Stoke following his £13million move from Liverpool last summer, he had a good first year scoring six times in 36 Premier League appearances and he's set to be an important part of the team for Mark Hughes this year.

It shouldn't be a surprise Swansea are interested, especially as they look set to lose Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton but as they were sniffing around the now 27 year old when he first signed for us.

They quote Scholes as saying.

'Swansea did inquire - I would rather it didn't get reported - but we told them quite firmly we are not interested in any kind of sale. They made an inquiry, they're a decent club, we told them we aren't interested and that should be the end of the matter.'

He added.

'Joe had a good season and we're hoping he will have an even better season this time.'
