Hoefkens: 'I'm not going back'

Carl Hoefkens have revealed that he never had any serious intention of leaving Stoke for Brugge.

The Potters and the Belgium club had agreed a fee but the deal broke down when Hoefkens could not agree personal terms.

He had made it clear when the enquiry was first made public that he had no wish to return to his home country as his family were all settled in North Staffordshire.

He has now explained that only went over to discuss the deal with them out of politeness: 'Brugge asked me to go over and talk to them so I did, to be polite, but I knew in advance I wouldn't go there, to be honest.

'I don't want to go. I have said that from the beginning and I still feel the same.

'I want to stay in England 100 per cent and I really enjoy Stoke.'
