Huth gives Stoke pre-season encourgament

Robert Huth is on target to be ready for the start of pre-season training.

The German centre half is hoping to be fit enough to be available for the first day of the Potters pre-season training after a long layoff with injury.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes told The Sentinel:

'I've seen Robert this week and he looks in great nick, as you'd expect. He's been in all summer, working hard and looking forward to beginning pre-season. The hope is that he will start on the same day as everyone else."

Huth has been absent from Stoke`s team after limping off in the Potters 2-0 victory against Sunderland at the Britannia Stadium in November.

The 'Berlin Wall` was forced into exploratory surgery on his knee and was hoping to make a comeback before the end of last season but failed in his attempt to rehabilitate.

Hughes continued:

'He's gone through all the stages. We were trying to get him back during the season and you're talking about Premier League matches and getting him up to speed for those.

'We are in a position now where we still have five or six weeks before the games start and he's in a good place at the moment to come back in the group. He'll be playing big-sided games and we're hoping to get back up to his top level pretty quickly.'

Marc Wilson, Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa were all forced to deputise in the heart of the Potters defence in the absent of Huth, who has made 148 appearances for the Potters since 2009.
