Stoke to honour Delap deal

The Potters are intent on honouring the deal to sign Rory Delap in January even though it seems he will be out for the rest of the season.

Delap suffered a double leg fracture in his home debut against Sunderland on Tuesday night but Stoke Chief Executive, Tony Scholes has said that they are still committed to signing the 30 year old defender when his loan period ends and the transfer windows opens again in January. 'We signed Rory on an emergency loan, but with a very clear intent and gentleman's agreement to make the deal permanent in January. Rory got injured wearing our shirt and representing this club. We owe it to him and family to stand by him at what is a very difficult time.'

Within the rules of loan signings, Stoke could have sent him back to Sunderland for treatment, but have decided to take the responsibility for his treatment and rehab.

He had a operation on his right leg on Wednesday and has been in the Nuffield Hospital in Newcastle-under-Lyme since being transferred from the University Hospital in Stoke yesterday.

After such bad luck, all Potters fans will be hoping that he gets better soon and we see him back in a Stoke shirt as soon as possible.

Good news. RD deserves as much & it shows the footballing world we are a decent & honourable club. I do hope there is some "flexibility" within the loan rules we can use to allow us another loanee in the meantime.
