Tonge in Leeds loan move

Tonge in Leeds loan move

Michael Tonge has moved to Leeds United on an emergency 3 month loan deal.

The 29-year-old midfielder has moved to Elland Road to be linked up with his former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock.

Tonge spent 9 years at Bramall Lane, where Warnock seemed to get the best out of the Manchester born player.

Tonge has struggled for first team opportunities since his move to the Britannia Stadium in 2008 and has had loan spells at Barnsley, Preston and Derby since his move to Staffordshire.

He has failed to play for Stoke since their 1-0 Europa League victory against F.C. Thun at the start of last season.

Tony Pulis told Stokecityfc.com: "This is a great move for Michael, and I am sure he will go there and do extremely well for them.

"He is a great lad, but as with the others who haven`t been named in the 25-man squad here, it is vitally important for them to get out there and play regularly."

The versatile midfielder`s loan move follows his omission from Stoke`s 25-man Premier League squad.

Four other players; Diego Arismendi, Mamady Sidibe, Matthew Lund and Danny Higginbotham are all also expected to the leave the Britannia Stadium on loan as they also failed to make Pulis` squad.
