Owen excited at Stoke challenge

Former England international Michael Owen is excited at the next hurdle of his career at Premier League outfit Stoke City.

Owen, who has had an illustrious career having played for Liverpool, Newcastle United, Manchester United and European heavyweights Real Madrid, is looking forward to plying his trade at the Britannia Stadium.

After putting pen to paper on a one year deal with the Potters open wrote on Twitter: 'Delighted to have signed for Stoke subject to Premier League approval. We have been in talks for a while and it was a club I was always keen to join.

'I'm particularly excited at the prospect of working under Tony Pulis. He has assembled a great squad that I look forward to joining.

'I'm now looking forward to contributing as much as possible to the club and can't wait to play in front of a great set of supporters.

'Thanks for your kind messages everyone. Can't wait to get going again!'

The 32-year-old striker has an impressive scoring record in his career with 221 goals in 473 appearances, which includes 40 goals in 89 games for England, putting him fourth in the all-time England goal scorers list.

Hopefully Owen will continue to score goals at the Britannia Stadium and help a goal shy side who only managed to score 36 goals last season; the lowest in the league.
