Stoke announce squad numbers

Stoke have announced their squad numbers for the new season which could give an insight of who will feature for the first team this season.


Wilson Palacios, who was a bit part player last season after struggling to find full fitness, has changed to number 8, which could mean that manager Tony Pulis will be featuring the Honduran more in his first team plans.


Jermaine Pennant, who has been strongly linked with a move away from the Britannia Stadium, has taken over the famous number 7 shirt, which has been worn by club legends such as Sir Stanley Matthews and Terry Conroy. This move almost certainly cements the fact that the London born midfielder will be staying put at the Britannia Stadium.


New signings Geoff Cameron, Jamie Ness and Michael Kightly have also been allocated numbers for the coming season. U.S.A. international Geoff Cameron has been given the number 2 'jersey`, whilst former Rangers midfielder Ness has been given the vacant number 14 shirt.


Stoke`s latest signing Kightly will wear the number 21 shirt after his move from Wolves.


All other players have retained their shirt numbers from last season, which means the number 10 shirt, which was worn by Ricardo Fuller will remain vacant. Does that mean a headline grabbing striker is on the way to the Potteries?
