Stoke seal Upson deal

Stoke have today completed the signing of former West Ham defender Matthew Upson.

The 32-year-old has penned a two-year-deal at the Britannia stadium and is the Potters second signing of the summer, following the arrival of fellow former England man Jonathan Woodgate.

There have been plenty of rumours flying around of Wilson Palacios` proposed move to Stoke but this particular transfer has caught everyone by surprise!

However, it does at least mean Pulis` search for another defender may have come to an end, could this spell the end for the likes of Danny Collins?

Great deal!! It'll force the other defenders to make sure they are at their best to be in the first pickings. He will bring a lot of experience to the Brit and will be interesting to see how he plays

Absolutely :D Just need to shift Danny Collins off the wage bill. I like Upson and he was a favourite at West Ham as captain, so Hammers fans will be sad to see him go. But I'm pleased to see him come, and for free! So Pulis, we've got the defenders, we need to finalise Palacios, and then focas on getting at least one striker quick.

Not convinced. Upson had a VERY poor season last season and was conistantly bad, i will be amazed if you find a hammers fan who rates him after last season. However provide strength in depth as a fourth choice centre back especially with the extra games we have this season.

Poor player, end of. I think you're wrong on this occasion Kalisz I'm sorry to say

Good to see you up on here balders72 (it's been too long). It seems there's a split in views with this deal. Some like and some dislike Upson, but I don't think he should be written off completely. He has said that he relishes the fight for a spot as it brings the best out of players, and with the regulars in Huth and Shawcross, then he'll have to work hard to push though. I think he is capable of doing that. End of the day, he was free so we can't complain. We bought Danny Collins for £3.5 Million, and out of the two, I'd pick Upson.

Fair play, I've just never rated him myself. He's on £40,000 a week which seems excessive for a player of his not quite so brilliant calibre. But I challenge him to prove me wrong at least

Poor player of little quality
