Well, I`m back from Portugal and isn`t the weather 'greyt`? I do have one consolation however and that is being mistaken for another nationality on a couple of occasions, but for obvious reasons, I`ll leave that observational humour there.
So what`s been going on since I swanned off for a week to lounge by the pool, basking in the glorious sun and sipping icy pints of coke? Well not too much, apart from the signing of Jonathan Woodgate on a pay-as-you play deal. I think Stoke could potentially have done a good deal there as we have nothing to lose. A fit Woodgate is a quality Woodgate; his experience would be an asset to the back four and possibly in the defensive midfield area, and if to say the 31-year-old suffers yet another injury, then we don`t have to pay wages only for him to sit in the hairdressers. A lot of fans are split, and it`s mainly due to his injury record, but the contract we have snapped him up on seems to be a good one. Let`s just hope that he can pull it out of the bag for us and not pull something out of joint.
As for other rumours, well they just seem to be floating around Carlton Cole more than anyone else. Cole has been a target of Tony`s for a while now and we have had failed attempts of signing him in the past, so will it fail again or will it come good? Perhaps a better question would be is Carlton the man we need? Yes he is very good, but on his day, on the rest of the days his performances can seem to lack a little therefore resulting in him being de-motivated and not as willing to work 'aard. It`s a vicious circle, but if we can stabilise him and he can show a bit of consistency, then perhaps he would be a good player for us. But I do continue to stress that he isn`t any better than what we have already got. A lot of fans will want to see better quality coming to the club, not players that are on a par with others in the squad.
But we have faith in Pulis as a manager and so we must have faith in his ability to spot of good player for a good price. Let`s leave him to his work I suppose. Still, football is nearly back at the Brit and I cant wait to start ruining my voice-box again!
