Spurs single out Shawcross as Transfer Target

The rumor mill is cranked up to the maximum; some rumors are real cream buns, and some have more chance of platting flour, but we`ll take them anyway.

The latest report suggests a move for our skipper Ryan Shawcross as Tottenham are ready to step up their bid to sign the 23-year-old defender, and that offer will involve Sabastien Bassong.

Tony Pulis`s former mentor and best friend Harry Redknapp has been a keen admirer of Ryan for a while, and so wants him to replace Bassong, whom of which has fallen out of sought with the ginger Delboy. So as well as a cash sum (as of yet is undisclosed), Bassong will be the make-weight within the deal.

The Potters are keen to keep Shawcross as he has been a pivotal player in defense and a worthy captain. Not only that, but he has declared that he enjoys being based at the Britannia Stadium, and is immensely excited about the Europa League next season.

However Ryan wishes to break into Fabio Capello`s England squad and could have a better chance at doing so with Spurs. Although it has been a shame that he hasn`t made it already.

Mama mia Capello this lad has what it takes doesn`t he? Is it really because he is at Stoke? That shouldn`t be the reasoning at all. A player is an individual and doesn`t represent the reputation of the club he comes from, although in some cases that reputation is false anyway. Thanks for that Arsene Wenger! It would be a shame for him to go because he has quickly asserted himself as a favorite amongst the fans and the team, and he would leave a hole in defense.

Bassong does fit the mold at the Britannia Stadium, and is at a ripe age of 24, but I`d still prefer Shawcross in all honesty. However Harry may be prepared to throw in a different player instead in Tony is tempted. Wilson Palacios, Jermaine Jenas and Peter Crouch could be the names up for grabs, but nothing is concrete as of yet.

From a club`s perspective, any serious offers would have to be considered, so I shall wait to see if this develops further before I make my comment, however I would like Ryan to stay. Do you agree?

In other news just briefly; Liverpool`s Christian Poulsen and Bari forward Enrik Huseklepp have been linked with us. Hmm… interesting.

well as a spurs fan I would welcome him

Hes a great player, no matter what the likes of turkey-faced Wenger say! If he did go to you guys he would be sadly missed around here
Rhin0
A good young player with everything to prove at the top level. If he comes to WHL I hope he gets the chsance to prove his worth or his fragility.
Horny Helen
Fragility?? He's a solid player! And the only sign of fragility he showed was when he broke Aaron's leg and was in bits afterwards! That's actually remorse if anything, something that is not often seen
Rhin0
Don't want/nered him at Spurs, he's the same as Dawson except not quite as likeable. We need a ball playing centre back like Ferdy etc so we can start more attacks from the back
Dan Mac
we'll keep him then ;)
Rhin0
Ryan is good at attacking you know Dan Mac, but like Rhin0 said... we'll have to just keep him then
