Turkey International and Stoke City forward Tuncay Sanli has made a permanent move to Wolfsburg and the German Bundesliga for £5million.
The 29-year-old flew out to Germany for a medical and contract talks, and has now finalised a deal to get away from his struggle to make regular impacts on Tony Pulis`s first team. That and his desire to continue his captaincy role in the Turkey squad where the reasons for his departure.
Wolfsburg, managed by former Middlesbrough and England coach Steve McClaren, recently sold Edin Dzeko to Manchester City, so the hole was there for someone like Tuncay to fill.
Stoke originally paid £5million for Tuncay back in August 2009, breaking the Potters` transfer record. During his time at The Britannia Stadium, he has made a total of 55 appearances, scoring 8 goals.
Tuncay told his official website: "I am thankful to Stoke City club and the Stoke fans for the great support. I signed a 3 and half year contract with Wolfsburg. I am looking forward to playing at Wolfsburg and meeting the Wolfsburg fans soon".
Despite the reports of him buggering off home to watch certain games on Sky when he realised he was not in the starting 11, and other on-field strops, Tuncay certainly was a fan favourite. His work ethic was immense and it is always encouraging to see one of your players tank round the pitch chasing the ball.
He is a player that will be missed at The Britannia Stadium and perhaps one that will leave a gap in the attacking options for Tony.
