Tony Pulis has come up with an interesting system to assess referee`s performances at the end of the season. After seeing no less then 6 major game changing decisions go against his side this year, the Welshman has a bee in his bonnet, and understandably so.
The idea he has put forward would see referee`s promoted and relegated between the divisions at the end of the season, just like clubs. But it would be the clubs who decide which three ref`s would face the drop.
Pulis said to the official site "I have given this careful thought over the weekend and I want to be constructive with my criticism, so I think we should put in place a voting system where every Premier League club can judge the referee over the season".
"The bottom three referee`s would be relegated would then be relegated and they would be replaced by three who are promoted from the Championship"
"This voting system would be ensure that they would treat us all as equals. That is all we want. We are supposed to be playing in the best league in the world with the best players, top stadiums and great pitches. But it doesn`t seem as though it is a level playing field and we have had two and a half years of it now".
We have certainly been on the end of some disastrous decisions and many Potters fans will say it is a conspiracy against our team. I wouldn`t quite go that far, it is just incompetence on their part. Referees have arguably the hardest job in football but these decisions that they are getting wrong are basic decisions that you or I could give. And it isn`t just against Stoke, albeit most of the poor calls are, what about Nani`s goal for Man Utd at Spurs expense? Of course the big clubs get all the major controversial decisions in their favour, but can you imagine Fergies reaction if all of these went against him and his team.
Time for a change? Is Pulis`s system worth looking in to?
