Etherington A 'Strong Contender?'

Etherington A 'Strong Contender?'

From Vital England:

Matthew Etherington has often been a name 'touted' as being good enough to play for England, mostly a few years back during his time with Spurs as a youngster but most recently during his earlier days with West Ham.

Things went a little stale for him with West Ham in the end and he eventually joined Stoke at the start of this year, and this has seen the best of him again with his Stoke manager Tony Pulis of the opinion that he has 'got to be looked at' by Fabio Capello: 'I don't think it's too late for Matty and England, he has got to be looked at.

'He has been outstanding and on a different level to anything I've seen since he joined us in January.

'It's not for me to tell Capello what to do or what not to do. The only thing I will say is Etherington has been excellent.'

I admit I always thought that Etherington would get a chance with England. I remember back along when West Ham beat Palace in the play-offs when Neil Shipperley scored - or was it Palace beating West Ham? - that I felt I could see Etherington getting a chance in 'the season that followed'.

That, of course, did not materialise.

This is just a sample section, read the full article on this link - England - A 'strong contender?'
