Collins wins Player of the year

Stoke left-back Danny Collins has been named the North East Football Writers Association footballer of the year. The 2.75 million pound summer signing was played a tremendous role in Sunderland`s successful relegation battle.

The runner up was former Newcastle centre back Sebastian Bassong followed in third by Stoke`s Tuncay, formerly of Middlesbrough. Collins will be expected to pick up the award during a ceremony which will be held on November 29.
