'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Reid's move to Stoke is off

Reports in the Bangkok Post today have refuted claims that it had been agreed that Peter Reid will leave his post as coach of the Thailand national team to become Tony Pulis's number two.

It seemed as though it was all over bar the compensation, but after Reid met with the president of the Thai FA in Manchester after Saturday's match against Sunderland it seems as though he's going to stay as national coach for the remainder of his contract.

After the meeting the Thai FA president, Worawi Makudi, told the media that 'He [Reid] did not sign a contract with Stoke.

'He just helped his friend. He cannot go anywhere at the moment because he is still under contract.'

They seem determined to keep Reid and there doesn't seem to have been any agreement that he could do both jobs or if they will agree to an early contract termination after the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers in November.

Strange that Reid was at Everton on behalf of Stoke yesterday AFTER his meeting with Makudi. I wouldn't be as sure that the deal is off as Vital Football seem to be.

If he does stay (and the Thais seem to be saying that he is) then I'm wondering if he could continue to "help his friend out" at Stoke without compromising his contract? If you take the report at face value, it seems an odd statement from the Thais if they (as Lakeland Potter thinks) are willing to do a deal now to end his contract.
