Whitehead finally arrives at Stoke

Dean Whitehead has finally put pen to paper and signed a four year contract after making the move from Sunderland's Stadium of Light to be our first major signing of the summer.

The deal has cost an initial £3m that could rise to £5m based on appearances and the 27 year old midfielder becomes the fourth former Black Cat to make the move to the Brit in recent years, joining Liam Lawrence, Danny Higginbotham and Rory Delap.

Despite early reports saying that he was likely to miss tomorrow's friendly at Deepdale due to paperwork delays, the club have now confirmed that he is available for the match against Preston where the Stoke squad will have a chance to pit themselves against former Potter, Jon 'The Beast' Parkin.

It now seems more likely that Whitehead's arrival will mean that Seyi Olofinjani's reported move to French club, Monaco will now go ahead.
