Pulis: Shawcross is staying at Stoke
Stoke manager Tony Pulis has denied claims that Ryan Shawcross is set to leave the club. Rumours are circulating that the English centre half is being targeted by Harry Redknapp`s Tottenham.
Pulis, who is known to have a good friendship with Redknapp, has said "No one has rung me up. I get on well with Harry and I would be very surprised if it is in the papers and he hasn`t rung me first".
This will come as a huge relief for Stoke fans who have witnessed Shawcross progress into a fine defender with a huge future ahead of him since his initial loan move from Manchester United in August 2007. Ryan then signed permanently in January 2008 for a then club record fee of £2million and played a crucial role in our successful bid to retain premier league status.
Pulis also refused to comment on any speculated interest for Dave Kitson and Andy Griffin. He said "They are in the same situation as Michael Tonge, Leon Cort and Ibrahima Sonko" he also added "They will play a part" after being asked whether they will play in the upcoming season.
On the other hand both Andy Wilkinson`s and Salif Diao`s futures have been resolved. Wilko signed a 1 year extension to his current contract that will see him here until 2012, while Salif signed a new 1 year contract keeping him here for at least 1 more year. Diao isn`t everyone`s cup of tea, including mine, mainly because when he plays he isn`t fit and makes too many mistakes, but he is capable of being very effective when playing against more attacking teams but his fitness is a problem it looks like we are just going to have to get behind him and inspire him to be at his brutal best.
