Shawcross called up to England U21 squad

Ryan Shawcross has been recalled to the England U21 squad.

The 21 year old gained two caps towards the end of last season after impressing in the Potters' promotion run-in. It took him awhile to find his feet in the Premier League but has regained his form recently with three goals in the last four games. Not a bad record for a central defender and they more than made amends for the own goal in the Portsmouth match a few weeks ago.

A very well deserved call up for Ryan - after a dodgy start to the season he is now one of our most consistent players. The mystery is why he wasn't in the original squad and was only called up as a replacement. Hopefully he'll get a bit more time on the pitch - but not too much, I don't want him knackered when he plays against the Baggies.
