Gifton joins Austin Aztex

Gifton joins Austin Aztex

Former Potter, Gifton Noel-Williams has joined Stoke City's US sister club, Austin Aztex.

Gifton spent two seasons at the Brit from 2003-2005 scoring 23 goals before joining one time Stoke boss, Steve Cotterill at Burnley where he spent three years. Since then he's spent two years in Spain playing for Real Murcia and Elche in the Spanish second division and this season he joined Millwall, but was soon shipped out to Yeovil on loan.

The Aztex are based in Austin, Texas. They're owned by Potters' director, Phil Rawlins and coached by another former Stoke player, Adrian Heath. They start their first full professional season in the United Soccer Leagues First Division later this year.

The great thing about this move for Gifton is that the climate in Texas should suit his well publicised arthritis much more than the climate in the UK. Before his operations he was hugely highly rated at Watford. I met him a couple of times and he is a decent bloke - I wish him well in the US. Hopefully he will not only score goals but will pass his experience on to US youngsters.
