Stoke now looking at Sorensen

Stoke now looking at Sorensen

48 hours ago Marton Fulop was a cast iron certainty to be unveiled as Stoke's new keeper today, but then along came Thomas Sorensen....

Whilst the Potters had agreed a transfer fee with Sunderland for the Hungarian international it seems as though it is all up in the air again as Tony Pulis decided to give the former Villa and Sunderland keeper, Thomas Sorensen a trial at the Brit today.

Sorensen was released by Aston Villa in the summer and whilst his star may be on the wane, he has the advantage of being a free agent and is said to be keen to stay in England.

What Marton Fulop must make of this 11th hour and 59th minute intervention by the Danish international keeper we may never know, but he must be wondering if he is really destined to pull on a Potters' jersey after already having had a loan spell cut short after only five days last season, followed by several weeks of transfer negotiations and an abortive attempt by Stoke to sign Scott Carson in the middle.

But from the club's perspective, it's only right that we're able to weigh up all the alternatives before putting pen to paper on what would be a very expensive deal for someone who is currently a reserve keeper - rumoured to be in the region of £3m which could rise to nearly £6m with performance bonuses.

If they do decide to continue with signing Fulop, then let's just hope that someone else doesn't nip in and pinch him from under our noses in the meantime.
