Griff wins red card appeal

Stoke City skipper, Andy Griffin has won his appeal against his sending off during Sunday's match against QPR.

Referee, Andy D'Urso had been quick to pull out the red card after Griffin's legal sliding tackle was deemed 'dangerous play', but D'Urso was equally quick the following day to say that he got it wrong and the FA have now rescinded the red card and he no longer faces a three match ban.

Whilst justice has been done. Why, oh why, do referees allow themselves to get into this situation in the first place? Modern refereeing is more akin to being wired up for a TV show with earpieces and microphones for all the officials so that they can communicate with each other. How ever D'Urso managed to take such an instant decision on his own without a clear view and without consulting his so-called assistants should be at the centre of any investigation by the refereeing hierarchy.
